Side Part Hairstyle

IMG_4290At the recent Premiere Birmingham Southeastern Beauty Show one of my neighboring exhibitors underwent a major transformation at one of my two barbering classes that weekend. I had the opportunity to cut a side part hairstyle for a young man who had been letting his hair grow out for months.

Side Part Hairstyle:

1. Cut a center section on the top creating a guide holding your fingers parallel to the floor using small sections and a traveling guide.

2. Start in the back just above the parietal ridge and create a guide holding your fingers parallel to the sides of the head. Follow this guide to the right and then to the left using a traveling guide and small sections.

3. Start in the back using a clipper over comb technique and meet your guide (but do not cut into it) from the previous step. Complete this step to the right and then to the left.

4. Use a t-outliner to line up the side burn area and the back of the neck.

5. Along the natural part line on the top use a t-outliner to actually cut the part in so it will stand out more. Make sure to stay on the natural part line.

6. Style the hair with a firm gel and a wide tooth comb or vent brush.
